Last week, singer Tati Zaqui made a report against her then-boyfriend Thomaz Costa for assault. According to the Civil Police, she filed a police report stating that she had been threatened with a knife and bitten on the leg by the actor.

The topic generated discussion on social media, with some users claiming it was a “marketing stunt.” Therefore, the singer decided to speak out about the controversies surrounding the relationship, stating that she had been a victim of emotional abuse and physical assault.

On Instagram, last Friday (26th), Tati Zaqui shared an open letter as a heartfelt statement on the matter. “They tried to silence me. They tried to diminish me, defame me, belittle me. They tried to trivialize my pain, to invalidate me as a woman. They laughed at my suffering. They mocked what was sacred to me,” she began.

According to the 29-year-old singer, they also tried to isolate her from her friends, work, friendships, family, and even her beloved pets. “They hurt my body, they crushed my heart, and I completely lost my peace. They completely deconstructed me in a slow process that seemed endless,” she added.

“I no longer found pleasure in being on stage or in the recording studio. I turned down jobs and commitments. I no longer felt the will to live and just wanted it all to end quickly, as if by magic,” she revealed.

Tati emphasized how she saw her life change day after day when all she wanted was to be happy. “I wanted to build my family, have children. I believed it was possible and clung to my daily pain, thinking I didn’t deserve many things. Happiness was just one of them,” she poured out.

The singer spoke about feeling guilty and lacking strength and courage because she had become a hostage. “I am not Tati Zaqui. I am Tatiane! And there is a big difference between them. One is what people see. The other is who I am,” she highlighted.

She denied that the relationship was a marketing ploy. “Every second of that spectacle, repeatedly played on the internet, with the same plot and new events, was real. Perhaps, by exposing everything, a change would occur, a miracle. But my help wouldn’t come from heaven; it depended solely on me. I had to say no! And I tried many times,” she asserted.

“Psychological abuse is a web. The more you try to escape, the more trapped you are in it. Emotional abuse completely invalidates you, it reduces you to nothing. Physical violence leaves marks on your body, but tears your heart apart.”

Tati mentioned that she was supported by her family, her manager, and her team. Now, the singer said her desire is to change her story and asked for understanding during her “moment of withdrawal, grief, and pain”: “I no longer want to be ashamed of what I went through, but proud of the courage I found to escape the plot that almost destroyed me. Almost. I’m still here.”
